Traveling Tom

Executive Director for the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB), Bill O'Neil, recently contacted Brownfeild Ag News for a few photos of Tom Steever to use on promotional material.  Tom received an email from Bill and attached was a photo of the new NAFB banner.  We think it looks great!

I told you in an earlier post about our very own Indiana Brownfield Farm Director taking the role of Mr. Potter in "It's a Wonderful Life."  He sent along some photos from the production.  (Dave/Mr. Potter is the one in the wheel chair.)
     

Warm fuzzies

We receive some beautiful and creative Christmas cards during the holiday season.  Over the course of the year, we have a lot of contact with advertising and public relations agencies, so it should come as no big surprise the level of creativity in some of the cards we receive.  We didn't have an official vote about it, but if we did, the card we received from the Ervin Group would win.  The green faux fur card is like no other!

So much generosity

Here at Brownfield we receive many nice cards, messages and gifts from generous friends during the holiday season.  Mike Rogers, a freelancer who has been doing work for Brownfield for years (I've been with BF for a decade and he was working with the team here long before I was!) always sends us a wonderful box of citrus from Florida.  My office smells like oranges on an otherwise cold, snow-covered, freezing-rain kind of day.

Steve Kopperud, our Inside D.C. commentator sent a note letting us know that in lieu of the annual holiday gift, Policy Directions is making a contribution on our behalf to the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI.) 

Our friends at CMA contribute to Heifer International each year.  The donation this year includes two heifers, two llamas, two sheep, two goats, a flock of chicks, a flock of geese and a flock of ducks.

Sometimes the best Christmas gifts are the ones we don't get.

Managing for Profit

During this time when almost everyone is talking about the tough economy, it does my heart good to know that our team of ag communications experts has been providing listeners to the Brownfield Ag News Radio Network and web viewers/listeners with great programming.

Managing For Profit is a program we first introduced six years ago.  The daily program is designed to help farmers make a profit while managing risk.  The program, which airs on many of our Brownfield affiliate radio stations is produced by Tom Steever, Julie Harker, Bob Meyer, Ken Anderson and Dave Russell. 

Take a listen.  I always learn something when I do.

 

Christmas Kari

Christmas Kari (our promotions coordinator, Kari McKinney) is getting "psyched up" to go Christmas caroling today.  The carolers, including Brownfield's Tom Steever and Julie Harker, will be spreading their musical joy to students and teachers at a local elementary school.

My USB Beancast

Last week, an enhanced United Soybean Board website was launched.  The site is designed so that farmers can find the resources they need to remain competitive. The new page, whose redesign was funded by the checkoff, gives users the power to choose from 17 unique sections of content and customize it to fit their daily operational needs. 

Be sure to download "My USB Beancast" which is hosted by our very own Dave Russell.  Dave has been reporting  news and information important to soybean farmers for many years.  He'll update the podcast at least once a week.

The site is set up so you can "plug in" the components of interest to you.  Once you learn how to navigate the site it is pretty cool.  You just need to take a few minutes to get comfortable with it. 

Whew. That's a lot of interviewing!

I finally tallied up the total number of interviews the Brownfield Ag News team conducted at NAFB Trade Talk.  The 8 of us who participated in the interviewing marathon on November 13 conducted a total of 118 interviews.
