Earlier today, the Brownfield team was talking about the story Dar Danielson had on Radio Iowa about the Iowa turkeys preparing for their trip to Washington, D.C. for Thanksgiving. Jerry Passer shared one of his many impressive stories with us:
Not exactly sure of the year, but Harry Truman was President when my dad hatched the White House turkey at our hatchery in Wells, Minn. It was raised by a producer by the name of Howard Wollum near Mankato, Minn. For years a picture of the Broad Breasted Bronze and Harry Truman hung in my dad’s office. The picture was signed by Truman. I don’t know what happened to the picture after my dad died and the Wells Hatchery closed. Wish I had it. It was quite a feat for my dad to hang it up as he was a staunch Republican.
